Ferdos Heidari

An interdisciplinary artist and educator creating work at the intersection of storytelling, languages, and academia.

Language has shaped every chapter of my work—on stage, on the camera, on the page, in the classroom, and now across two cultures. I trained as an actor and playwright at Southern Methodist University (BFA, Theatre Studies), earned an MFA in Creative Writing and an MA in English Composition at San Francisco State University, and then PhD in English. I've directed award-winning film, published in literary and academic journals, and taught at universities in Bay Area and DFW. As I step out to live in Seoul from August 2026, I will be mainly focusing on my craft as an actor in addition to expanding a rhetoric and composition project focused on translingualism and archival rhetorical recovery.

For years I treated my disciplines as a problem to solve—acting, writing, scholarship—as if I had to pick a lane. What I've come to understand is that they are asking the same question from different angles: who gets to speak, in whose language, and what gets lost in the gap. Everything I make begins there.
